What my clients receive...
What's it like to work with me?

On this page I'll tell you the kind of experience and results my clients have reported.  I'll also give you a sense of my guiding beliefs, approaches to working with clients and how I'm different from most practitioners.

What results have clients created through working with me?
Result #1: My clients are better able to embrace world change. Instead of fearing or resisting the convulsive changes they see in the world, they embrace them as the birth pangs of much-needed evolutionary shift. They learn to work with the changes the see - to ride the wave of transformation.

Result #2: My clients clarify and create their 'right livelihood'. They learn how to create meaningful, fulfilling work that is in alignment with their values, skills and beliefs - and contributes to the transformation of our communities, institutions and, ultimately, the world.

Result #3: Clients come out of the closet as leaders in service of the world. They get clear on what matters to them, what they have to offer, and how they can best offer it. They learn to own their unique gifts and transformative power. Their commitment and courage as leaders grows.

Result #4: Existing leaders learn to maximize their impact. They are better able to better protect their time, life-energy and resources. They acknowledge and overcome their personal blind-spots. And, as they encounter challenges that threaten to limit their impact, they expand their capacities as leaders and, in the process, transform the challenges themselves. Ultimately, their impact and contribution grows.

Result #5: They transform the business of transformation. Leaders with transformative businesses are able to design their business practices to support their values, lifestyle and mission, while making the money they need to be personally sustainable and grow their impact in the world.

I can help you keep track of the big-picture perspective while you focus on details.

VisionLegacy's Perspective on What Matters...

We're in a critical moment of our species evolution. We will either rise to the challenge by transforming our individual and collective consciousness, and the ways in which we create social structures, or we will perish.

Old structures and old models of leadership will no longer work. This time is calling us forth to redefine the way we live, work, relate with each other. And it calls for a new model of leadership, one that honours the gifts of each of us and asks us to offer them for the benefit of all. It asks us to cultivate wisdom and respect for the whole web of life as our guiding principles.

We need to look at problems in holistic, integral ways. It's important to specialize or focus on an aspect of a problem to get depth. But without a systems understanding of how things are interconnected and how the problem can impact all aspects of an equation, we keep our understanding confined in isolated silos. Working holistically means we don't just focus on the feeling side or the intellectual side. And we don't ignore the body's wisdom.  Working holistically means that we take into account all aspects of who we are.

What it's like to work together...

Clients free to be who they are with me. They don't feel rushed, judged or pressured to do things they don't want to do.  They feel safe enough to experiment, get creative, make mistakes, mess up and learn.  Most report that they are surprised by the depth of our work together - they feel supported to go deep, to really look at issues and let go of their judgement and fears of making mistakes. When things feel bleak, dark or frustrating, we mine the answers to be found in that place, rather than hurrying them on prematurely to action.

Each client feels special, and the work we do is unique and co-designed with them.  Unlike some cookie-cutter approaches, the work that we do together depends on what my clients need in the moment.  If a client has too many balls in the air, we work on defining priorities, clarifying what matters, or focusing on work-life balance. If they need to accomplish a goal or deadline, we focus on defining the critical steps to achieve results.  If they need to slow down and reflect on their own deeper truth, we do that. And always, the work we do keeps in mind the client's larger life path and purpose so they continue moving forward no matter where we focus.

Clients feel truly heard and seen - in all of their aspects and complexity.  But especially, they feel seen in the truth of their hearts.  As they grapple with the questions that matter to them, as they experience what's spoken - and unspoken - being reflected back with loving curiosity, they come to have a fuller appreciation for who they are.  And they are better able to access and tap into their own inherent wisdom.  The experience of non-judgemental awareness plays a large part in our work together.

How am I different from other practitioners?

Here are some of the things that distinguish me as a speaker, coach and facilitator ...
As a speaker... Many of the advanced speakers that I see concentrate on the technical aspects of their performance – things such as body movement, gesture, vocal variety etc.- and on delivering a motivational message. While I constantly learn from my colleagues, my early experiences as a university lecturer mean that my speeches distinguish themselves through the research and depth of thought that goes into them. So much so that I've been hired to research and write speeches for other keynote speakers. However, I've long ago left the 'lecturing' mode of speaking behind – my speeches are conversational, thought-provoking and speak to to the heart and the deep knowing of my audiences.
As a facilitator... Since leaving university teaching, my approach to facilitation has become deeper and more 'minimalist' in nature. This comes from an increasing trust that any group contains within it the wisdom and answers it seeks if it is asked the right questions in the right way. It also speaks to a growing trust in my own facilitation skills, which includes the capacity to drop my own facilitation agenda and go with the unexpected turns, twists, and rabbit-holes of group dynamics. My facilitation is also distinguished by the deep experiential processes that I integrate into my workshops and retreats.
As a coach... I have a long-term experience in supporting the processes of others. This understanding is built upon a foundation created not only through extensive coach training, certification and a 5-year practice – but also through earlier training and practice as both a psychotherapist and career counsellor. My life's path has also supported my unique capacity as a coach. My own spiritual journey, academic training, life-long involvement with social justice and environmental issues, creative capacity as an artist - and my experience in the business and non-profit worlds - combines into a strong integral framework that is dedicated not simply to the creation of more fulfilled lives (the focus of most coaches) but to the creation of a better world.
