Who does VisionLegacy work with? My clients are talented individuals who come from a broad range of careers and life circumstances.  Some are coaches; some are academics; some are social entrepreneurs; some are healing arts professionals and some are in transition -- looking for a way to work that is more alive and more in alignment with their values.  Some live locally and many live outside the country.  Each client determines the focus of their work and that focus looks different depending on their needs.

What my clients have in common is a commitment to living life in a way that is full and deeply resonant.  They are willing to say yes to a dream, and for many that dream includes making a difference in the world, to expressing their values, wisdom and highest potential on behalf of something bigger than themselves.  They are often what I would call 'transformative leaders'.
What is coaching?
And why do people chose to become clients?
The world is moving at a faster and more complex pace than ever before. Coaching provides an opportunity to slow down, breathe, plan, and act in an intentional way that is consistent with an individual’s values and sense of purpose.

Coaching is a relatively new field and is quickly becoming one of the leading tools successful people and organizations use to live effective lives and accomplish the extraordinary.  Widely used within the private sector by corporate leaders, coaching is a partnership that provides clients with structure and support for reflection, learning, visioning, goal setting, and accountability.  People choose coaching because they want better results, greater clarity, and improved focus, or because they want results they're having difficulty achieving on their own.  A typical coaching session happens over the phone.  During these sessions, clients identify what is most important to them and align their thoughts, words, and actions accordingly. Coaching is a process that is inspiring, exciting, energizing and, at times, messy.

Coaching is a client centered, non-directive process, which creates new thinking, enhanced capacity and increased action in the person being coached. It helps results become achievable and sustainable over time.  Coaching focuses on the whole person and brings a new way of relating and communicating in a purposeful, deceptively simple manner.  If an individual is being coached, discussions touch on all areas of their life, which results in greater accomplishment and satisfaction in all areas.

Clients usually come to coaching with the desire to change something. They may not be clear or specific about how or what to change, but they know they want something different.
How is Coaching Different from Therapy?
And from Mentoring and Consulting?
A therapist typically helps to heal areas of pain, trauma or dysfunction and, in doing so, will often help a client overcome their past.  A mentor is a person with the same or similar profession who instructs and guides someone toward a particular end. A consultant is an expert that provides answers, instructions, and solutions.

"Life coaching is a powerful human relationship where trained coaches assist people to design their future rather than get over their past. Through a typically long-term relationship, coaches aid clients in creating visions and goals for ALL aspects of their lives and creating multiple strategies to support achieving those goals. Coaches recognize the brilliance of each client and their personal power to discover their own solutions when provided with support, accountability, and unconditional positive regard."  (Patrick Williams and Deborah Davis in Therapist as Life Coach: Transforming Your Practice.)
What does the coaching look like? Coaches and clients develop a relationship of trust. It is an equal partnership. From this partnership the coach works with the client to reveal and build on strengths, improve performance, get in touch with what matters, and enhance the overall quality of life.

A coach helps a client change from the inside out by listening, asking powerful questions, motivating, and offering accountability. A coach helps a client make effective and sustained change in outlook, attitude, and behavior. This is done by examining values, articulating goals, visioning, thinking, feeling, taking action, and reflecting.

The coaching relationship is co-created by both client and coach to meet the specific needs of the client. In each session we will determine your needs and build the coaching around them.

Different packages are available to meet individual needs, but in each case we meet 3 to 4 times a month for an initial 3-month period.  Many clients chose to continue on a month-to-month basis thereafter because of the momentum and results they see.  Most coaching is done over the phone so that travel, busy schedules and geography are not barriers.

How do I know if coaching is right for me? The best way to understand the power of coaching is to experience it for yourself.
